Kolmar Families & Friends,

On behalf of Mr. Lackenbach, Mrs. Koehler, myself, and the entire Kolmar Staff welcome to the 2020 - 2021 school year!  We have been very busy this past summer preparing so that the first day of school with your child on August 31 is a great learning experience.  We know that this fall is not beginning how we would have envisioned in years past, but we are as excited as ever to get started.  Please know that we will do everything possible to continue to provide engaging instruction and to create a connected Mustang Community. Making connections and building a strong relationship with your child and family will be a key component towards a successful remote learning experience and the start of the new school year.

I would like to extend a warm welcome to the following staff members. We are so excited they are Kolmar Mustangs!

  • Mrs. Kim Koehler - Assistant Principal
  • Mrs. Michelle Basek - 2nd-grade teacher
  • Mrs. Susan Ashe - 3rd-grade teacher
  • Ms. Tammi Polingo - Social Worker
  • Mrs. Nicole Bressanelli - EL Teacher
  • Ms. Lauren Baker - 8th-grade Spanish teacher/EL Teacher
  • Ms. Janel White - 8th-grade Social Studies teacher/Interventionist

Remote Learning Plan:

As you are likely aware, the school district made the decision to move to full remote learning for all students on August 18, 2020. District 143 will continuously monitor COVID-19 data and information in the hopes that we can return students to our classrooms when guidance or a COVID treatment allows.

If you have not yet reviewed the plan, we recommend taking a few minutes to read through the superintendent’s message and the plan itself. You may access the Remote Learning Plan on the district web page.

Highlights of the plan include:

  • School Day
    • Monday - Thursday K-8: 8:20 am - 1:50 pm (30-minute lunchtime included)
    • Friday K-6: 8:20 am - 12:20 pm (no lunchtime included)
    • Friday JH: 8:20 am - 12:45 pm (no lunchtime included)
  • Attendance will be taken daily at 8:20 am in each child’s homeroom. If your child will be absent, please call the school office to report the absence.
  • Students will engage in remote learning throughout the day - attendance, participation, and work completion are required.
  • All students will be issued a device for remote learning.
  • Food service will be provided at all district schools Monday & Thursday from 7:30 am until 9:30 am. Please see the Revised Remote Learning Plan for pick-up locations.

Registration:

All returning students must register for the 2020-2021 school year.  This can be conducted online.  Specific directions can be found on the district website under Registration 2020-2021.   If you are a returning family and have not yet registered, please do so as soon as possible so that your child is ready for e-learning on the first day of school, August 31.  Registered families will receive their child(ren)’s classroom assignment(s) at the “Back to School” Supply Pick-up beginning on August 26.

“Back To School” Supply Pick-up Days:

We will be conducting our supply pick-up days for remote learning on August 26 – August 28.  Student devices, consumable workbooks (as needed), and classroom assignments will be ready for you to collect.  If you did not pick up your child(ren)’s supplies at the end of the school year, those will be available for you as well.

Back to School Parade:

While all in-person events for the present moment have been canceled, the Kolmar staff is excited to welcome the 2020-2021 school year with a reverse parade. Our parade will take place on Tuesday, August 25 from 6:00 pm until 7:00 pm. Additionally, teachers will create a welcome video or presentation for you and your child(ren) to view regarding the upcoming school year. Videos or presentations will be ready for your viewing on Friday, August 29. Please visit the Kolmar School webpage on Friday evening to view your child(ren)’s teacher’s video or presentation.
